In March 1945 all German personnel were ordered to the Western front, to fight Pattons 3rd Army.

In early April 45, the remaining German troops retreated up the Sinn-valley to the East. Sometimes elements of the German army or Waffen-SS would try to defend cities and villages.

Brigdes were blown up. But more and more German soldiers chose life over a certain death in battle and surrendered themselves to the U.S. Army.

Finally elements of the US 14th Armor and 3d Infantry Divisions took control of the village of Wildflecken as well as the camp and training area.
